The following is an explanation of the information
above:
Site
Y indicates that the candidate had a campaign website that was live
and
functional. Y* indicates that the candidate had a URL reserved but no
website
or had a campaign website that indicated that it would be coming soon
and/or
was under construction. N indicates that no campaign website could be
found
for the candidate.
Easy to Find:
The Ease of Locating was assessed by conducting searches for “candidate’s
name,”
“candidate’s name 2002,” “candidate’s name campaign,” “elect candidate’s
name,”
and/ or “friends of candidate’s name” on three search engines – AltaVista,
Google,
and HotBot. Only the first two pages of results were examined. If those
searches
failed to locate a campaign website, searches were then performed on the
Democratic
Congressional Campaign Committee (dccc.org),
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (dscc.org),
National Republican Congressional Committee (nrcc.org),
or the National Republican Senatorial Committee (nrsc.org)
websites where appropriate. A value of 0 indicates that no campaign
website
could be found, while 3 indicates that the website was found easily for
most
of the searches conducted on all of the search engines. A value of 2
indicates
that the website could be found on at least two search engines, and/or
several
of the searches conducted failed to return a website. A score of 1
indicates
that the site was difficult to locate, and could either be found only on
one
of the above organization’s website and/or on one of the three search
engines.
